The 2008 Los Sueños
Signature Billfish Series
consists of two tournaments: January 9-12 and March 12-15.
Format: Boat tournaments, exclusively catch and release.
Sanctioning: Both tournaments are sanctioned by the
World Billfish Series and IGFA/Rolex
Target species: Marlin (all species) and Pacific sailfish.
Scoring: Points will be awarded for each successful
release, 500 for any species of marlin and 100 for Pacific
sailfish.
Monitoring: The Tournament Promoter will provide IGFA-certified
observers who will rotate on participating boats and complete
the scorecards, which will be verified against the Committee
Boats radio log. Each boat is responsible for supplying
a digital camera or video recorder with date/time stamp capabilities
and must provide photographic or video evidence of each marlin
release.
Entry Fee: $7,000 per boat per tournament or $10,000
per boat for the series (both tournaments). The entry fee
includes six social tickets for all tournament events; four
angler bags; and T-shirts and caps for anglers and crew. In
addition, the entry fee qualfies boats to win trophies and
cash prizes as defined below.
Prizes: All boats are eligible for trophies and cash
prizes, to be awarded to the top three boats per tournament
based on overall billfish release points. The cash jackpot
will be distributed as follows: 50% to first place, 30% to
second place and 20% to third place.
“The cash prize purse will vary in accordance with the
number of entries received, but is estimated at $150,000 based
on the participation of 50 boats.
As the tournament promoter, Los Sueños
will put up an additional guaranteed cash prize of $50,000,
to be awarded to the boat with the highest combined billfish
release points for the entire series. Boats must fish both
tournaments to be eligible for this additional prize.
